Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich

We love learning new recipes through our customers! One of our brides wanted a Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich for a late night snack, we loved the idea but never made them before! We searched the web for the best recipe we could find and tweaked to make our own. This is currently the most popular late night snack to have.. guests get so excited to munch and it’s also a great way to soak up some of that alcohol from a wonderful night of celebrating

INGREDIENTS:

Hot Chicken

  • 8 chicken thighs or breast –boneless, skinless
  • 1 tablespon salt plus 1 tablespoon
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 3 cups cake flour
  • 2 teaspoon granulated garlic powder

Coleslaw

  • 14 oz coleslaw mix or shredded cabbage
  • ¾ cup mayo
  • 3 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Hot Honey Butter

  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup Mike’s hot honey
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Pat the chicken dry with a paper towel, then season salt and pepper on both sides. Set in fridge while prepping other ingredients
  2. Combine all slaw ingredients in a mixing bowl, then use tongs to toss together. Refrigerate until needed.
  3. To make hot honey butter, melt 1 stick of unsalted butter, Mike’s Hot Honey, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, paprika, chili powder, and salt in a saucepan.
  4. In a bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, and hot sauce. In a second  bowl, whisk together cake flour, salt, and garlic powder.
  5. Dip each chicken in the flour mixture, then in the egg wash, then again in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  6. Fry in a fryer, large cast iron or heavy bottom pan with oil.  Heat until oil reaches 350 degrees F. When oil is hot, carefully add half the chicken depending on the size of your pan, and cook, turning every 1-2 minutes, until all chicken is a golden brown color and has an internal temperature of 160 F, about 6 to 7 minutes.
  7. Toss your fried chicken in hot honey butter and assemble! Toasted Bun, pickles, chicken topped with slaw. Enjoy!
